CEO's Message

Ellen Krajewski, MPH, CEO

Eastport Health Care in growing. We have more patients seeking care and more staff coming on board to make a difference in the lives of our Down East communities. We’re listening, and we’re learning. Board Members, staff, patients. All of us are coming together to create something wonderful, person by person, step by step. EHC Machias is a fantastic community health center with wonderful staff. Our Machias facility is located in a high visibility location that can be easily seen from the main road going through Machias. We’re part of something there. A collaboration of community members and organizations working to improve the quality of life of the residents.

EHC Eastport has a new future location as well. Again, high visibility and part of the fabric of people and organizations wanting to lift up each other, our neighbors, and do good work. Help people. EHC care teams already know what this work looks like and they are at work, taking care of patients and improving lives. It’s all about intent and keeping our patients front and center. Our Eastport Health Care Board of Directors, made up of community residents and EHC patients, knows what is needed for all of us to thrive and be our best selves. They know that we need to take care of our most vulnerable residents, in order to make a difference in the health and quality of life of our Downeast communities and people.

Our staff uses data and information to inform their care and treatment, and they use their hearts and hands to meet the patients where they are and to help them move the wellness dial.  Clinical quality and evidence-based medicine are the paddles we use to steer us and insure we’re all paddling in the same direction. EHC just earned three important quality awards from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) that we are very proud of. We received recognition for addressing social risk factors to health, advancing health information technology, and for health center quality. Only the most effective health centers in the country –over 14,000, received this kind of recognition. EHC has managed to do this year after year.

There are many opportunities for growth and it takes each of us stepping up, raising our hands and saying, “Me. Count me in. How can I help?” EHC is creating more access to quality primary care, behavioral health services, and dental care. More support for patients struggling to access services. More help. So many have been a part of our work thus far. Thank you. We are making progress. We’re impacting lives and making a difference. With your support and involvement, we are making good things happen together.
